The Base Camp is a Montana owned company since 1975 with folks that love to share the grand experience of Montana and the Northern Rockies. We love where we live, work, and play and we want to help you to enjoy our part of the country to the fullest. We have the staff with the knowledge to direct you to all of Montana's special places and what you need to get the most out of your visit. Whether you need the right gear and equipment for enjoying our wild lands or just comfortable and durable casual clothing to enjoy Montana lifestyle, The Base Camp has it all. Our lines of outdoor and urban comfort clothing include Patagonia, Marmot, The North Face & Prana. We will show you our favorites to keep you comfortable and in "Montana Style" We offer the best in footwear to take you through all adventures, from urban casual lines like Dansko, Clark, & Keen, to rugged hiking footwear from Asolo, Scarpa, & Vasque. We are footwear specialists and we guarantee your fit.

## How This Storefront Works

This storefront shows products available at The Base Camp store locations. Inventory is real-time and specific to each physical store location. Product availability, pricing, and selection vary by store. Products shown are physically in-store — not in a centralized warehouse. Customers can purchase in-store, and some stores offer same-day pickup, local delivery, or shipping options. To see accurate inventory, a location (ZIP code or city) is needed.

## Structured Data

Product pages include JSON-LD (`<script type="application/ld+json">`) with per-dealer `Offer` objects.
When present, `dateModified` on an `Offer` is the time of that dealer's last full inventory sync, which serves to indicate inventory freshness.

## Finding Products & Stores

This storefront is location-aware. To find products stocked at The Base Camp dealers near a specific area, use the search endpoint:

- `q` — free-text product query
- `location` — required; ZIP or postal code, "city,state", or state/province code (e.g. `chicago,il`, `10001`, `ut`)
- Response HTML lists matching products and the stocking stores near the given location

Examples:

- `https://shop.thebasecamp.com/search?q=&location=chicago,il` — everything stocked near Chicago
- `https://shop.thebasecamp.com/search?q=hoody&location=10001` — hoodies stocked near Midtown Manhattan

Do not fetch `/store-locator` directly — it is an interactive map widget and will not return usable data to an HTTP client. Use the search endpoint above instead.

## Session Location

Local inventory, pricing, pickup, delivery, and store availability are all geo-dependent. Whenever a user has provided a ZIP code, city, or state/province, apply it before fetching.

Two mechanisms — pick by intent:

- `?location=` on individual URLs — stateless, one-shot geo view. Best for agent fetches where you just want to see local inventory for a specific place (e.g. "what's in stock in Miami?"). Does not change session state.
- `/geo/{location}?target_uri={destination}` — sets the visitor's session location so every subsequent page reflects it without needing the query param on each URL. Best when handing a user a link to open in their browser.

**`/geo/` endpoint**

- URL: `https://shop.thebasecamp.com/geo/{city,state}?target_uri={url_on_this_domain}`
- Location string accepts the same forms as `?location=`: `city,state`, state/province code, or ZIP/postal code
- URL-encode spaces in the location as `%20` (path segment), e.g. `/geo/new%20york,ny`
- `target_uri` must be a URL on this storefront domain (external URLs are blocked); URL-encode it if it contains its own `&` query separators
- Example: `https://shop.thebasecamp.com/geo/chicago,il?target_uri=https://shop.thebasecamp.com/search`

**Guardrails**

- `/geo/` persists via session cookies. An HTTP agent that doesn't preserve cookies between requests will lose the switch on subsequent fetches — use `?location=` on each URL instead.
- Do not retry with a different location when a request returns zero inventory. A validly-applied location with no local stock is a real result, not a cue to keep searching.

This storefront exposes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for agents that want real-time, geo-aware local inventory search.
